Paris Fashion Week: Sonia Rykiel

Set deep in the world famous Jardin des Tuileries, the debut of Sonia Rykiel’s Fall/Winter collection was held in the perfect atmosphere to kick off our Paris Fashion Week. A thin layer of had fog drifted its way into the outdoor tent, finding a home amidst the rafters and giving an almost ethereal quality to the lighting. As the packed crowd eagerly worked their way to their assigned seats, the energy in the room was one of noticeable anticipation.

The show started with a series of black and cream pieces that progressed into peach tones, forest greens, and even one solitary red dress before building back to a sophisticated black. The highly ready-to-wear line showcased a semi-conservative yet sheer wardrobe of beautifully tailored pieces that emphasized intricate knit work in a variety of timeless designs. All the models wore ear warmer headbands with confident scraggly hair flowing out the back, tying all the outfits together with a simple accessory and giving the collection a distinctive look.

The 81 year Sonia Rykiel sat on the front row throughout the show as creative director April Chricton displayed her latest vision. At the end of the show, the models came back for an encore presentation, walking down the runway en masse, laughing and holding hands, delighting the crowd in the process.
