Coachella: Miike Snow

The main features of Miike Snow’s performance were the lights and visuals. Throughout the set, bright white lights incessantly flashed as the members of the band were cast cryptically in and out of shadow. Singer Andrew Wyatt seemed to especially enjoy this, and he basked in the glow of the light while belting out hits from the band’s new album, Happy to You.

Lykke Li made a welcome appearance during “Black Tin Box,” a song she collaborated on with the band. The two acts have formed a record label along with fellow Swedish groups Peter Bjorn and John and Dungen, and if the song with Lykke was an indicator of what’s to come, then it’s safe to assume that good things will be emerging from the INGRID label.

As part of the crowd slowly began easing over towards the main stage to stake out a spot for Radiohead, the lights on the outdoor stage went into strobe mode and the pulsating heart visual exploded into the band’s sparkling stag image, then the infamous introduction for “Animal” had everyone screaming in delight and running pell-mell back towards the front of the stage. The music was quieted as the crowd sang along, and the atmosphere at Miike Snow was one of satisfaction.
