Hennessy VS x Futura Launch
Wednesday night Milk Studios in Los Angeles hosted a private event to unveil legendary graffiti artist Futura’s limited edition Hennessy VS bottle. The custom bottles are a continuation of the brand’s collaborative series with high profile street artists, launched last year with a design by KAWS.
DJ D-Nice got the party started spinning nineties hip-hop while Usher, Olivia Munn, Matt Kemp, Tristan Wilds, Wynter Gordon, Kid Cudi, Sophia Bush and Jesse Williams mingled in the VIP. By eleven, female fans lined the stage for Diplo’s DJ set, followed by a live performance from Santigold who kept the stylish crowd dancing until 2am.
Known as a pioneer of abstract street art, Futura rose to fame in the early 1980s alongside Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Baquiat, and Kenny Scharf. When we spoke to him, he had just finished a guided tour through downtown LA to see some of the city’s most important street art, hosted by Los Angeles artist Saber.
“This partnership is one of the biggest opportunities I’ve had as far as exposure to my art and the essence of what we in the graffiti community are trying to express beyond the streets.” Futura’s design was inspired by the warm tones of the cognac that he studied while in France. “Going to visit Hennessy’s facilities was fascinating. I was able to create my own blend and learn the history of the region and the 250-year old process.”
The event also featured a live art installation by Futura and winning pieces from an art competition at Pratt Institute, based around the concept of Hennessey’s “Never Stop, Never Settle” credo in which students created work that illustrates their “Wild Rabbit” – an inner drive that challenges people to meet their potential.
