America met Europe in Michael Bastian‘s SS13 collection that swelled to an impressive forty-six looks culminating with Noah Mills closing. The styling polished up what was essentially an A-Z of a mans summer wardrobe needs; rolled up trousers over bare feet in tasseled loafers or leather mandals. A light, summer trench thrown over a cotton separates with again everything rolled-up to three-quarter length on arms and ankles.

Wafer thin knits matched pocket squares while linen shirts had light design elements from India or employed dinner shirt pleats, horizontal or vertical, to accentuate the male body. Frayed denim shorts were paired with candy colored jackets and tan leather belts were ubiquitous. Smiles came via a t-shirt emblazoned with ‘Donna Summer Tour 1981’, perhaps a fond memory for Bastian of the doyenne of disco who passed away in May.

When the clothing strayed from the laid-back European look and onto tight cargo pants or suits with busy prints, the collection fell from grace but Bastian is very giving to his customer in this respect; if members of his clientele don’t appreciate the central theme of his collection then his collection offers other options.
