Duro Olowu's Universal Elegance
Upon entering Duro Olowu’s presentation last night, I was overcome with prints. At first glance these textiles struck me as obvious reference to the designer’s home country of Nigeria. However, after watching his models coyly mingle with one another about the room, the presentation seemed to be more about a universal sense of elegance, camaraderie and joy than an homage to any one culture in particular.
Geometric patterns and spirited colors draped around the girls, tucked and pinned in a way that referenced 1930s hedonism and a worldwide love of the exotic.
