Rad Hourani's Black Carpet Magic
Rad Hourani had a bold vision for the second showing of his RAD
line. For his AW11 collection, the designer (with the help of stylist William Graper) transformed six garments into twenty-six looks presented on smooth black carpet runway. “Like my all other collections, the mood of the show is seasonless, classical, and timeless,” said Hourani.
Perhaps the most outstanding feature on the runway was the uniform set of heels worn by all 26 male and female models, and of course the Hourani’s team themsevles. “I love the idea of unisex shoes,” he said. “I always loved wearing heels and I liked the idea of creating strap sandals that you can wear anytime with tights. It’s just really something I made for myself and made all the models put it on too.”
When did he start his heel obsession? “I’ve worn heels since I was young,” offered the designer. “Though I never liked heels that were too feminine or too masculine. So I stuck with cowboy boots!”
Despite the energy of his words, Rad pulled it all together on only three hours of sleep! “I went to sleep at 4 this morning and woke up at 7, but this is a huge improvement for me. I usually get a single hour of sleep during my production,” he smiled.
