Target, aka the favorite store of every suburban mother who aspires to be Martha Stewart, has teamed up with one of fashion’s brightest (and foxiest) stars, Prabal Gurung, to bring those signature bananas patterns and feminine cuts to the retail chain. The red carpet at last night’s launch was more terrifying than the door situation at an Alexander Wang party, but that didn’t stop us asking some of the attendant "important" types about their bargain shopping secrets – when their publicists weren’t looking.

Prabal Gurung: “I find my bargain buys at Target and ICB of course. [laughs] And 10 Foot Single in Williamsburg and Search & Destroy on St. Mark’s.”

Paper Magazine Editorial Director Mickey Boardman: “I wear Target; I wear lots of inexpensive stuff. Tonight I have a Lanvin sweater with a Lacoste shirt, a Stella McCartney bag and Payless Nikes. It’s all about high-low.”

Olivia Thirlby: "I pretty much only buy clothing second hand or used. I’m a big bargain shopper and I appreciate shopping for that very reason."

DJ Mia Moretti: “Housing Works is the best low maintenance thrifting you can find in the city. You don’t even have to sift through the racks – just check the obvious hiding spots. I’ve found Pucci in punch bowls and Manolos under sofa cushions. Just put your thinking cap on and get hunting!”

DJ Chelsea Leyland: “One of the best things I’ve ever bought was a bag at Primark in England, which was only $3. I’ve used it every summer for the last three years and I swear to God, every time I wear it people ask who made it! It’s not always about how much you pay for something. I also love Zara – it’s not super cheap but it’s amazing. I love cheap mascara from drug stores – never cheap lipstick, but cheap mascara. Also cheap shampoo, expensive conditioner…and cheap tampons!”

The Prabal Gurung for Target collection will be available Feb 10th – March 23rd 2013, or while supplies last, at all Target stores and Prices range from $19.99 to $39.99
