Tabitha Simmons presents at MADE
True to form, the aw13 collection from British stylist-turned-shoe-designer Tabitha Simmons was as covetable as it was creatively inspired. Like Christian Louboutin before her, Simmons knows that when it comes to shoes – sex sells. And from a liberal (yet elegant) sprinkling of glitter and crystals, applied to red-carpet show-stoppers and sensible sidewalk flats alike, to a sporty line in kitten-heeled, triangle-toed ankle boots, the entire collection was designed to appeal to the fashion magpies circling the displays.
Simmons has gained something of a cult following among fashion’s most fabulously shod women, and avid fan and fellow NYFW designer Tory Burch was among those eager for a personal walk through of the new collection. Vibrant jewel tones in satin and velvet dominated for evening, with holographic accents lending a futuristic touch. For day however, suede and pony skin booties in black and leopard, and pointed loafers with the most miniscule of practically invisible heels, were easily sleek enough to double up for any red carpet occasion. But then that’s how Simmons operates. In her world, the shoes are always the star of the show.
