Sophie Theallet’s Bonnie & Clyde Adventures
Sophie Theallet had plenty of important visitors even before her show commenced. First up was Sally Singer who marched in with the latest copy of T Magazine. Then came Anna Wintour, who arrived with a cup of hot Starbucks, and Lisa Love by her side. Moments later, Emmanuelle Alt had her face time with the French-born designer. Wendi Murdoch and Dr. Lisa Airan were safe in their seats up to catch a bold and directional collection.
“I love to play with color but sometimes aggressive colors tend to fight each other,” said Theallet. “This collection was inspired by Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde. It’s about a tough, strong woman who always tries to look like a lady, but can’t hide that fire inside.” The inspiration came very directly from the designer’s own movie fantasies. “I think I fantasized about being Bonnie when I was younger,” she smiled. “If you have a strong personality, you have a strong personality. And as a designer you need to be strong because you have to have something to say.”
What’s next for the former CFDA/ Fashion Fund champ? “I’m going to have a glass of wine with my team in the studio,” she smiled. “It’s our seasonal tradition.”
