Opening Night: James Houston, Natural Beauty
Natural Beauty by James Houston kicked off at Milk Gallery last night, in an exhibition and charitable effort aimed at raising funds for Global Green. Natural Beauty is open to the public from April 23rd through May 5th 2013 at Milk Gallery.
What do you get when you combine one charitably-driven photographer with a bevvy of top models, on-set hair and makeup extraordinaires, and one of the top photography studios/multi-media companies in the industry? James Houston’s Natural Beauty project proved the answer to all this at its Milk Gallery opening last night.
Executed in partnership with Milk, and shot almost entirely at Milk Studios, the project brought together the likes of Coco Rocha, Arizona Muse and Anja Rubik to create vivid photographs inspired by the wonders of nature.
The resulting images, peppered with exotic flowers, crowns of feathers, regal insects and other natural elements met an enthusiastic debut.
With a percentage of proceeds going to benefit environmental organization, Global Green, industry power players—including Marie Claire’s Zanna Roberts Rassi, One Management’s Scott Lipps and models Daphne Groeneveld and Kate Bock—came out in droves to show their support.
Featured beauty, Anais Pouliot posed in front of a photo of herself covered in silver glitter, while Kelsey Rogers admired her own likeness in a red-lipped, wind-blown trio of photographs.
The work even took an unexpected turn, with one of Houston’s photographs having been playfully applied to a Chevy Volt, which stood poised next to the image’s wall-mounted counterpart.
The night also marked the debut of Natural Beauty, a book produced for the same project, which pulled together Houston’s photographs into 200 pages of glossy, vibrant images.
The book from the exhibition is available in the Milk Store here.
Milk Gallery is located at 450 W. 15th St.
