MIlk Made Mixtape: Thrillionaire's Krautrock Mix
It’s Monday AND the day after Cinco De Mayo, so chances are, that combination means you need something to gently yet forcibly wake you up and ease you back into the routine of your daily life. We have just the solution for you. Henrietta Tiefenthaler of Thrillionaire has put together a Krautrock mixtape for us that will get your mind and body going again as if you didn’t down those 5 margaritas and consume an incalculable amount of chips and salsa last night.
For those unfamiliar with the genre krautrock, it has an ambient, eclectic sound that involves post-psychedelic jamming with rock instrumentation and electronic sounds and textures. Still confused? Just know that artists such as Joy Division, The Fall, Mars Volta, Wilco, Radiohead, and even David Bowie cite bands from the genre as significant influences on their music.
If you want more of those lush psychedelic melodies in your life, Thrillionaire has got you covered. The star studded line up of Henrietta Tiefenthaler on vocals, bass, programming and sound design, Jen Turner (formerly of Here We Go Magic and guitarist for Natalie Merchant) on guitar and vocals, producer Joey Waronker on drums and Bright Eyes member Nate Walcott on keys, they have the ability to transport you to a time and place you’ve never been to, but yet feel so comfortable being in. Listen to their song "Wie Geht’s?" (included in her mixtape) and you’ll understand what I mean.
Tonight also marks the celebration of the vinyl release for Thrillionaire’s first EP, Wie Geht’s, at LA’s new Mercy. Hosted by Dan Regan, Thrillionaire, & Mr. Kim’s record label, they will have a DJ lineup that’s sure to provide a good time for all.
Now, listen to this mix and get back to work.
