The Lonely Island Album Release Party
Last week we celebrated The Lonely Island album release party for The Wack Album at SONOS Studio in Los Angeles. As expected, the night was filled with laughs — from reading all of the selected lyrics plastered on the walls, viewing the hilarious framed portraits, and talking with the three guys themselves. Bandmates Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg, mingled with the crowd before joining Ben Lyons on stage to introduce a couple of their music videos and answer a few questions from the audience in attendance and on Twitter.
They began with an introduction to a music video that was their response to what they referred to as the "epidemic of hashtag rap", a song called, "Semicolon" which features vocals from Solange. If grammar jokes don’t tickle you, apparently, the track "Perfect Saturday" (a song centered around fart jokes) was to them, "the most fun we’ve ever had making a song". Jorma also presented the world premiere of the music video, "We Need Love", showing everyone their sensitive side, and making the ladies fall in love with them in the way we sort of fell in love with Napoleon Dynamite. When asked about who they credit for inspiration, they answered, "Spinal Tap, Tenacious D, Flight of the Conchords… and that movie Scarface."
They then proceeded to deliberately name drop the impressive line up of producers and featured artists on their album including Pharrell Williams, Hugh Jackman, and DJ Numark, just to name a few. However, their dream collaborator they mentioned would be Bill Clinton on sax. To them, nothing would be able to top having a sax solo from the former president.
Andy affirmed, "We’re putting it out there until it comes back."
Along with the release of the album, the band just put out their latest music video for Go Kindergarten, which features vocals from Robyn and stars Sean Combs and Paul Rudd.
