Unforgettable Summer at Louise Amstrup
Straight up Nostalgia. Leave it to Danish designer Louise Amstrup and her Spring-Summer 2014 line to have you yearning for summers past … just as the present one comes to an end.
Presenting at MADE Fashion Week Saturday evening, Amstrup’s collection draws on that one “unforgettable summer” when fingers tangled in saltwater-crisp tresses and soft kisses on sunburned skin led to the loss of innocence beneath creaking boardwalks.
While flirtatious skater skirts, hot pants, crop tops and a trapeze dress lend an air of femininity to the collection, Amstrup is still exploring the intensity she felt last season when pairing sporty silhouettes with luxurious materials. This time around via a denim and satin baseball jacket. Some materials, however, are purely sentimental as seen in a demi-couture dress, skirt, and top adorned with hand-embroidered motifs you’d spot along the boardwalk and scattered in the sand: ice cream cones, sea shells and sunglasses.
Waves of navy, indigo blue and lavender wash over the collection’s sole print featuring the Birth of Venus, steep cliffs, tropical flowers and clam shells on roller skates. Tying everything together, a cut in the shape of an organic wave appears in the hemlines throughout the collection.
