RUNWAY REVIEW: GARETH PUGH SS14
For Spring – Summer 2014, Gareth Pugh unveiled yesterday evening at the Palais de Tokyo a futuristic collection with very summery colors: white, turquoise, pale greys, and of course, a little bit of black. With Pugh’s oriental — and more specifically Japanese — inspiration, there were long elegant and extravagant nightgowns in silk, bustiers in leather, outfits in a special fabric with a patent plexi aspect, textured sequin-style dresses, a lot of feathers and the list goes on. There were armor-inspired boxy shoulders, accentuated tiny waists, exaggerated collars, and wrap-around pieces that evidently referenced a geisha’s kimono, plus an impressive assortment of Star Trek-meets-Kyoto makeup, with terrifically geisha-esque eye shadow and meticulously organized hair buns.
