A Night At Dylan Fest
On Monday night, the Bob Dylan fan in all of us was unleashed for a night of singing, drinking and dancing, to songs that I had forgotten I knew so well. Bowery Ballroom was sold out once again for The Best Fest’s newest edition to their annual set-list, Dylan Fest. Norah Jones, Karen Elson, Patrick Carney of The Black Keys and Dhani Harrison were among the talented artists who graced the stage.
Alongside the Cabin Down Below Band, who played each number tastefully and accurately, each performer gave his or her twist to the Dylan song they had chosen. This was gonna be a night to remember. Chase Kohl caught my attention with her beautiful rendition of I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight, and Ruby Amanfu gave the whole crowd goose-bumps when she sang Don’t Think Twice. Jesse Malin and Johnny T stormed through I Want You with no lack of conviction and the extremely talented Elvis Perkins sang a song in which his old man is mentioned, Motorpsycho Nightmare. The evening was made possible by its generous sponsor, Jameson, who kept their product flowing, creating a very merry atmosphere. It was an honor to have been a part of such a magical evening and I would advise everyone to keep an eye out for Petty Fest, Stones Fest or Dylan Fest, as that fan inside you will not be disappointed.
