5 Minutes With Henry Church
Milk Made is at Coachella, soaking in the sun and the booze with our friends from Stylebop.com and Radio Garage. We sent Jamie Burke to talk music with unsuspecting guests—on Sunday he spoke with White Arrows drummer Henry Church.
Is there a particular song you’ve got on repeat right now?
I actually have been listening to the cover version of "[I Can’t Get No] Satisfaction" by Devo a lot.
Cool. That’s a good one.
Pretty much the whole record.
Who are your musical heroes?
I don’t really have a lot of people in particular that I idolize, but I do really love and appreciate — pretty much — everyone. Growing up, I was obsessed with Mitch Mitchell’s drumming. I tried to emulate it. But other than that, pretty much just the classics. I really like Ty Segall and Kurt Vile have been putting out for a long time. I don’t know, I like a wide variety of stuff.
Any particular event or incident that made you want to follow a career in music?
My dad used to play drums, and the fact that he was playing drums kind of got me obsessed.
And are you a jack of all trades or a master of one?
I’m not a master of anything, so I guess I’m a jack of all trades.
Any other talents?
I can play a couple different instruments. I can paint. I draw, and I like to do that. A lot of the arts.
Who are you most excited to see at Coachella?
I don’t even have a ticket, but if I could, Motörhead. Or Lorde, actually. I’m interested to see her live setup and what she does. I like what she’s doing.
