It Came From the Internet: Gustavo Torres
Meet Gustavo Torres, a master of looped .gifs. His work transports us to a dystopian future of glitched out shiny surrealism. We found Torres via his internet famous tumblr, Kidmograph, but he is no amateur, having collaborated on projects with Kanye West, A-Trak and LEGS Media.
Who or what are you?
I’m a human being named Gustavo F. Torres. I’m almost sure I am.
How do you describe your artwork?
It’s weird to explain my own work. I like balanced things, big contrasts. A bit self-contradictory, chaotic, a selection of dreams. It remains to a distant future, a bit surrealist, a bit rough and glitched.
Whose art are you digging right now?
I found several people doing great and inspiring stuff. I mostly see what do people like me in platforms like tumblr, where a lot of good artists showcase great pieces. Beeple, Vince Mckelvie, Luke Wyatt, Rob Sheridan, Hateplow, Mr. Div are my faves.
In what state is your artwork best viewed in?
State of mind? Sky-High. Geographically? World wide right now but a lot in the U.S.
Can you briefly describe your creative process?
Usually i have a previous hunch-idea of what to do in my mind, like a mind still/photograph and then i try to pursue it on the style. First drawing (I’m a lefty) then modeling/compositing/animating and finally giving a post-production round into the final image. Other times mixing several projects I’ve done so far, missing concepts and unfinished ideas and the combination ends with a new angle. It’s more a progressive thing I guess at some point.
What are you most afraid of?
-To loose my fam
-A world without beer
-To wake up and not be myself.
-Stuck in a bad reality.
If the Internet went down forever except for one website, which one would you save?
I guess it should be Tumblr… so I can keep posting stuff everyday and see what other people post :-)
