'Evening in Space' with Daphne Guinness
Fashion icon Daphne Guinness must have set her phasers well past stun with her brand new music video ‘Evening in Space’ because it seems that our faces have melted off. With lush, decadent visuals and a wardrobe that makes Lady Gaga’s entire catalogue as exciting as a white T-shirt, Guiness’ video is a true piece of art.
Directed by masterful photographer David LaChapelle, the video is a trip inside the candy-coated, acid tinged mind of Guinness, which as we learn from the video revolves heavily around having sex with purple aliens and looking fabulous. Renowned for being amongst the best dressed women in the world, Guinness retains her title ten times over, appearing in outfits from some of her favorite designers, including Noritaka Tatehana and Iris van Herpen. Visually, the look of the outfits range from Flash Gordon Hindu Goddess to Icicle Medusa Priestess.
The song is incredibly reminiscent of early David Bowie, unsurprising given Bowie’s longtime producer Tony Visconti helped helm this track. We would even go as far to say that Guinness appears as the female answer to Bowie’s Major Tom, boldly going where no sex crazed cosmonaut has gone before. Her full album will be released sometime next month, but until then we’ll keep looking at her Technicolor splendor—-and those purple abs on her extra-terrestrial lover.
