'Sonic' Portraits by Hedi Slimane
For many of us, heading up Dior Homme followed by Saint Laurent would be a life well spent, but it is just not enough for definition Renaissance man Hedi Slimane. Slimane, who spends his spare time as a world class photographer, has just recently released his latest book of photographs entitled Sonic.
The book, which is also accompanied by an exhibition in Paris, is a vast series of portraits of various figures in the music industry, with special attention paid to the alt-rock wonderland of London at the turn of the millennium. The assortment of portraits are a wide array of familiar faces; sorely missed icons like Lou Reed and Amy Winehouse, living rock gods such as Keith Richards and Marianne Faithfull, and fresh faced familiars like Sky Ferreira and Chris Owens.
The Parisian exhibition is being held at the Fondation Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent until January 11th, a sort of homecoming for Slimane. In an interview with the Financial Times, he said how this show will be “very moving for me.” For music and photography fans alike, it’s almost guaranteed that they will be moved as well.
