Naomi Campbell Returns to the Small Screen
Fashion icon and superstar queen Naomi Campbell will be making a return to acting with a role in a new Fox series titled Empire, set to debut within the year. While it is not Campbell’s first foray into acting, it will mark a huge debut for her, with the show runners revealing that Campbell will be cast as a major character in a frequently recurring role.
Campbell will be joining major talent involved in the show. The director, Lee Daniels, is an Academy Award nominated director for 2009’s Precious, and some of her costars will also include Academy Award nominated actors Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. Daniels has mentioned that Campbell is "underrated in his mind" and is more than happy to have her on board. The show will concern the saga of a family in the hip hop industry and the various trials and tribulations that come with it.
As if Naomi in a soap hip-hopera wasn’t enough to get us excited, the Hollywood Reporter writes that Campbell “will portray Camilla, an alluring woman involved in a steamy affair with the much younger Hakeem, the potential heir to the family hip-hop throne.” Yes you read that correctly. Our diva inspiration Naomi will be playing a cougar on the hunt for a family’s hip-hop fortune. Sometimes in life there are no words for the pure elation and righteousness that one might feel. Guess who’s going to be watching Empire?
