Choose Life, Choose A Trainspotting Sequel
First Twin Peaks and now Trainspotting! It’s over a year away but 2016 can already be dubbed “the year of the comeback,” promising the return of at least two of the most beloved cult-classics of all time. I mean who doesn’t remember the first time they watched Danny Boyle’s masterpiece? From the first second we saw Renton being chased by police (which made us immediately fall in love with Ewan McGregor), being terrified by the baby crawling up the walls during Renton’s withdrawal, feeling frustrated that Begbie, Sick Boy, and Spud just seem to always ruin everything…we could go on.
The point is that Trainspotting told us to choose and it seems like they’ve chosen to come back twenty years later. News started circulating last year that Danny Boyle was browsing around the idea aisle, and now it’s safe to say we can upgrade the speculation from rumor to fact. In a recent interview with Details, McGregor was asked about a sequel, to which he answered, “It looks like it might happen. The idea is that we shoot it in 2016, which would be 20 years after the original came out. And I’d be up for it. I wouldn’t have been 10 years ago, but I am now.”
While we’re all mega fans of the antics of the film we can’t help but have mixed feelings about a sequel; we want to see more, but don’t you dare ruin it! As of now all we can do is just thank sweet baby Jesus that we’ll be able to see more of the Scot gang who can’t quite keep it together. And here’s hoping the sequel will reintegrate Iggy Pop in the amazing soundtrack…maybe even a cameo from the godfather of punk?
