Top 5 WTF Moments from Golden Globes '15
Last night marked the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, one of the most fun and unpredictable nights of each winter’s award season. While the Oscars can be thought of as the formal graduation for each year in film, the Golden Globes are like the Spring Break trip to Cabo that is a total shitshow but a ridiculously fun last hurrah before the sober-up of graduation. This year’s telecast proved that Hollywood’s best and brightest were more than capable of serving up weird in spades, leaving us in a state of pure bliss over some of this year’s more colorful moments. We tallied them all up, and here are our Top 5 Most WTF Moments from the 2015 Golden Globes.
5. That Boob Joke About JLo
First things first, Jennifer Lopez looked simply flawless all evening in a revealing gown that had us doing double takes. Sure she’s not as young as she used to be, but girl proved that she is 100% still Jenny from the Block in the looks department. So when Jeremy Renner presented the award for Best Actor in a Miniseries with Lopez, he felt it within his prerogative to comment on her stunning bod. Lopez offered to open the envelope to reveal the winner, stating “I have the nails,” to which Renner with a look down quipped “You have the globes too.” Despite the Twitter outrage that followed, Renner insisted on the good nature of his joke. While we’re not denying that JLo looked stunning, we’re not sure if that particular shout-out was necessary.
4. Amy and Tina’s Bill Cosby Riffs
Bill Cosby is the definition of a hot button issue in today’s pop culture sphere, and it’s something of an unwritten law for awards show hosts to get a little controversial. So we can’t say we were too surprised to hear co-hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey give their best Cosby impressions, but one joke in particular was a real stinger. As they addressed the various princesses in this year’s big budget musical Into the Woods, Amy joked that “Sleeping Beauty just thought she was getting coffee with Bill Cosby,” to a visibly shaken crowd. Can’t say either girls were too far off the mark, but nevertheless, ouch.
3. Margaret Cho as a North Korean Official
As the other most controversial issue of the evening, hosts Amy and Tina could simply not get around ignoring the North Korea debacle surrounding the film The Interview. So they addressed it head on, with a little help from Margaret Cho in the guise of a North Korean minister working for a magazine called ‘Movies Wow.’ Cho was brought out multiple times throughout the show, even marching in front of presenters before they reached the podium, but perhaps the most hilarious moment was posing with a confused looking Meryl Streep in a photo op proudly displaying their made up magazine, a photo we might add that was photo-bombed by Benedict Cumberbatch. “Thank you everyone, you’re all great Americans” joked Amy.
2. Leo Photobombs 50 Cent
As 50 Cent tried to Instagram a picture of himself with Naomi Campbell, (which c’mon, who wouldn’t?) he got a little more than he bargained for. Hands down the best photobomb of the night, sorry Benedict, Leonardo DiCaprio snuck into 50 Cent’s selfie with a look that is part amused prankster part terrifying serial killer. But what made this moment so deliciously WTF was 50’s reaction to Leo’s insertion. He captioned the Instagram photo with thanks for being photobombed by such a hottie, then laying down the life advice of ‘trying to live life without limits.’ Who would have thought this moment could be turned into something so inspirational?
1. Channing Tatum Blows on his Wife’s Face
The absolute most WTF moment of this year’s Golden Globes happened so fast that you could have blinked and missed it. As Channing Tatum made the rounds on the red carpet before the show started, he gave special care to maintain the comfort levels of his wife. And by special care, we mean blowing on her face. Not a quick puff of air mind you, but a full on fan made of sweet, sweet Channing breath. Is this an act of chivalry or a new form of sensual foreplay? Is this cute or gross? We’re conflicted, but we’ll be forever haunted by that mysterious channel of air.
