Kyle MacLachlan Returning to Twin Peaks
Did you get that Diane? After the truly shocking announcement from co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost about the upcoming return of Twin Peaks on Showtime, the world was left in a frenzy of speculation as to who would appear and what cliffhangers would finally be solved after the show came to it’s ambiguous end. A big part of the speculation period is over, after Kyle MacLachlan has officially been confirmed to return as the one and only Special Agent Dale Cooper, the hero and heartthrob of the Twin Peaks universe.
The announcement was made during the annual Television Critic’s Association press tour in Pasadena. MacLachlan, in true thespian fashion, arrived mid press conference in costume holding aloft his character’s signature cup of coffee served as ‘black as midnight on a moonless night.’ According to Variety, he presented the coffee to Showtime president David Nevins, telling the audience “I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you.”
Director David Lynch also tweeted a photo of MacLachlan back in his black FBI suit to help share the news. Lynch revealed that he will be directing all nine of the upcoming episodes for the new season, and with the official return of his leading man, there is nothing stopping the show’s return from being every bit the majesty that it promises. More coffee please, and we’ll take a third piece of pie with that as well.
