Lego Masks Are Our New Favorite Things
Designers Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton have brought something very dear to our attention, menswear doesn’t always need to be so damn serious! It’s totally okay to travel back to our childhood roots and draw inspiration from there, which is exactly what the duo at Agi & Sam have done. And what did they just so happen to unearth from the good old Yorkshire days? Those classic Danish Legos.
As seen at the Agi & Sam AW15 Menswear show in London, these handmade Lego masks, created by make-up artist and i-D Beauty Editor Isamaya Ffrench, are a fun and childish way to spruce up the runway and get only a tad silly. For years the Lego slogan has been, “Create The Impossible.” A wonderfully wholesome message to kids trying to build vast Lego empires, or the most epic Lego ships. Agi & Sam have even utilized that same message and created something that Lego itself would most likely deem impossible. Surely enough, The Lego Group never thought their toys would find their way onto the catwalk.
The Agi & Sam AW15 designs were inspired by "The Coolman Collection," a series of drawings Mdumulla created when he was just four years old, evidently making them his first official menswear line. Talk about young prodigy, huh? The original collection featured many of the colorful prints presented on the runway, with jigzszaw puzzle coats and squared sweaters drenched in a Lego inspired color way.
Look out for these pieces this coming fall, unfortunately sans Legos.
