New York gets a Men’s fashion week
It’s officially one week before New York Fashion Week begins, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced a new edition for next season: an exclusive fashion week for menswear. It’ll become a reality this year, showing Spring Summer ‘16 collections from July 13-16. Though it’s not technically a full week, the time allotted follows in succession with other men’s fashion weeks: London, June 12-15; Milan, June 20-23; Paris, June 24-28.
We do not consider this a victory for meninists (LOL), but as Steven Kolb, director of the fashion council, so nicely said on their blog, “It gives the designers a business platform to show during their market dates, and is an opportunity to demonstrate the collective talent of an important segment of our industry.” So far a buttload of designers are on board, including Michael Kors, Calvin Klein Collection, Rag & Bone, and Public School, amongst others. That’s not to say no one is skeptic though. American designers who show in Europe, like Thom Browne, may continue to do so. BUT the CFDA’s Kolb also said "We’re not trying to be London, Milan, or Paris. This will be New York and America. American men’s designers are equally as creative and deserve their own platform."
Men’s Fashion Week is going to be held at Skylight Clarkson Square in west Soho from July 13-16. Show us what you got, American menswear!
