Mayor De Blasio opens Made Fashion Week

Fashion, out of all trades, is the one that’s “most quintessentially New York,” a statement that we already knew in our hearts but was reaffirmed by a rousing speech from The Honorable Mayor Bill De Blasio. Mr. Mayor helped us kick off the Made in NY Press Announcement in the Milk Gallery last night, marking the official start of Made Fashion Week’s FW15 Season. Some of fashion’s more recognizable faces helped ring in the new season, such as Diane von Furstenburg, Steven Kolb, Public School, and of course Made founders Mazdack Rassi, Keith Baptista, and Jenné Lombardo.

Fashion, an industry that employs nearly 200,000 New Yorkers “is more important than ever,” DeBlasio stressed, citing the late, great Oscar de la Renta in a quote: “the great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward.” Here’s to the FW15 season and all of the seasons to come!
