Andreja Pejic's Glorious Return to the Runway
Andreja Pejic made a triumphant runway return last night since her gender reassignment surgery last year, and can we take a minute to say, she looks GORGEOUS. She returned to the catwalk and bright lights at the Giles show, walking along side notables such as Anna Cleveland, Edie Campbell, and Lily Donaldson.
The model shared her enthusiasm with devoted Instagram followers stating, alongside an image of herself, "it feels amazing to be making my runway debut for one of my favourite British designers #Giles Thank you to @kegrand and @guineapiggilies #thereturn #LFW."
Famous for her androgynous style, making runway appearances for shows put on by Jean-Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs, the model was formerly known as Andrej, but now identifies herself as Andreja. The Australian model of Bosnian Croat-Serb descent came out as transgender last summer, telling Style.com, “I figured out who I was very early on- actually, at the age of 13, with the help of the Internet- so I knew that a transition, becoming a woman, was always something I needed to do” and that she feels her "story can help people. My goal is to give a human face to this struggle, and I feel like I have a responsibility.”
This was a personal decision that she describes as an "evolution" and not a "full transformation," stating that "[SRS] was a personal decision. I took this step, and I said to myself, my career is just going to have to fall into place around it."
And how beautifully her career has morphed to her lifestyle.
