Virgil Abloh's The Only American LVMH Prize Finalist
LVMH has just announced the 8 finalists for the 2015 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, a category strictly for creative masterminds under the age of 40. This year we’re stoked and incredibly proud that some of Milk Made’s favorite designer’s including Jacquemus and Virgil Abloh of Off-White have made the cut, with Virgil being the only American (although Milan based) designer on the list. Someone had to represent the U.S. somehow, right?
Other designers in the running include, the Portuguese duo Marta Marques and Paul Almeida of Marques Almeida, Germany’s Demna Gvasali of Vetement’s, Austria’s Arthur Arbesser, and London’s Craig Green. Of course, there are also a slew of Frenchies such as, Sébastian Meyer and Arnold Vaillant of Coperni, and Faustine Steinmetz.
If these names aren’t impressive enough, take a look at who’s judging. Comprised of nine designers from LVMH houses, this year’s jury major boasts fashion-leaders such as Karl Lagerfeld, Raf Simons, Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Ricardo Tisci, J.W. Anderson, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. Let’s just say, whoever the winner is, getting the approval of these fashion giants is a serious blessing.
The winner of the 2015 LVMH Prize For Young Fashion Designer will be selected in May, receiving a 300,000 euro grant, as well as a year of personalized technical and financial support from the jury. This prize is not only an incredibly generous opportunity, but hopefully a surefire ticket to success. So keep your eyes peeled over the next two months, and see which of these eight designers, is going to make it. You already know who we’re rooting for.
