Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley Talk New Clothing Line
Last week, Marc Jacobs left us in shock by announcing the end of his more affordable sister line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. While we may no longer be able to purchase the ex-brands’ signature trinkets and accessories, our wardrobes will not have to suffer.
Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley, the former creative and womenswear directors of Marc By Marc Jacobs, transformed the company by injecting their creative visions into MMJ’s aesthetic and toughening up the brand’s image and style.
This morning, the two mega-talented Brits revealed that they are in the works of designing their own label. Hillier Bartley, their ready-to-wear clothing line, is set to debut its first collection this August.
Bartley explains that the collection did not happen over night, stating that "Hillier Bartley is a very personal project which Katie and I have been working on for years. It is a culmination of everything I have learnt as a designer and a woman and is purely and defiantly about the clothes and fabrics. It’s about a woman our age, indie by heart, rakish and irreverent by nature, who is maturing into refinement and naturalness.”
The clothing will be produced in the ladies’ stomping ground, the United Kingdom, while the bags will be made in Italy. Similar to their latest FW15 line for MMJ, that had us raving, their new collection will be classically English, inspired by Saville Row tailoring, and will feature fine cloth, velvet, silk, wool and shearling.
We are beyond thrilled that this innovative duo is at it again and look forward to continue watching them revolutionize the fashion world.
