Danny Clinch's Farewell: Polaroid Signing + Jam session
The Milk Gallery was excited to host legendary photographer Danny Clinch for his third event since the opening of his breathtaking retrospective show, Walls of Sound. Following a thrilling opening reception on March 3rd that included a Jam Room Session where guests enjoyed performances by Danny Clinch’s musical project the Tangiers Blues Band, Eric Krasno, Tash Neal, Tom Morello (from Rage Against the Machine), and Milk’s very own Cleveland Jones. Clinch also gave a riveting artist talk to a crowd of eager attendees on March 25. Guests listened intently to Clinch as he described his stunning photographs and the memorable stories and experiences that inspired them, and later, to a musical tribute performed by artist and friend of Clinch, Joseph Arthur.
Last night, Clinch sold individual prints from the large scale collage mural, called the festival wall, which was curated by Danny and features hundreds of snapshots from musical festivals such as Bonnaroo and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival that Clinch has documented throughout his career. The prints were sold first come first serve, and after choosing a one-of-a-kind portrait of their favorite artists including Bjork, James Brown, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, and more, guests had their new prints signed by Danny himself. Holding their newly signed prints of truly one-of-a-kind works of art, each guest left assured they were adding a unique piece to their collections: a beautiful, intimate portrait with a personal touch, the hallmark of Danny Clinch’s work.
However, because we can’t get enough of #MILKxCLINCH, we had to continue the celebration with a legendary night. The night kicked off with the Tangiers Blues Band which then segwayed into a full on festival jam session which included Eric Krasno with members of Lettuce and Soulive, Tash Neal (from the London Souls) and last minute guest G-Love (who happened to stop by Walls of Sound earlier that day and heard about the session.) Clinch aficionados, such as Ted Dwane as well as Milk’s Family and Friend Nur Khan stayed for the whole night.
Stay tuned.. this #MILKxCLINCH relationship might never end.
