Coachella 2015 day 2: Jack White, FKA Twigs, The Weeknd...
Coachella is a marathon, not a sprint. The key is to stay hydrated, don’t forget to eat at some point, and be realistic with your schedule.
Day two was filled with great performances from a span of many different genres. We started with catching a sliver of the contemporary Hozier, who had the entire crowd singing the lyrics to “Take Me To Church” with fervor.
Before Alt J came on the main stage, there was a buzz going around from people talking about how excited they were for his performance. A mass exodus of people from the Artist Village happened as his set began, with everyone scrambling to cram into the viewing area.
DoLab was a friendly dance party as usual, and today’s performances featured poi performers and glow in the dark neon outfitted dancing synchronized swimmers. Yesterday, the sporadically timed choreographed performances were performed by dancers with Roy Lichenstein inspired makeup and outfits.
Duke Dumont was easily a favorite set of the day. The amazing visuals and insanely produced light design made his super dance friendly set even more engaging—smiles could be seen on everyone’s faces, even the security guards. En route to another stage, I was able to catch bits of Tycho, an ambient and soothing break in the chaos.
FKA Twigs sounded every bit as ethereally sensual as you would expect, and watching her perform was hypnotic. The Flosstradumus set could be heard from miles away, and the crowd erupted when they dropped a new “Coco” remix.
The legend, Jack White, came in strong, delivered some White Stripes favorites, and reminded us all on how he is easily one of the most talented guitarists of our time.
The Weeknd had no surprise guests, much to many peoples’ dismay, but ended his set a memorable rendition of his new hit, “Often”.
Neon Carnival was the end to a full day 2, the party of the year that goes until the AM, held on an airplane hangar filled with free carnival rides surrounding a packed dance floor making it difficult to find time to sleep for day 3.
Stay tuned for our final recap tomorrow. Check out the gallery of day 1 here.
