Welcome To the Sonia Rykiel Library...
If you happen to be in Paris anytime soon, be sure to hit up 175 Boulevard Saint Germain to see the innovative new Sonia Rykiel flagship store. Although you may find yourself confused by the amount of books on the walls, don’t worry you’re in the right place. The effortlessly cool French queen of knits has just revamped her clothing store into a library/cafe pop-up.
With over 40,000 books stacked from the floor to the ceiling, the Sonia Rykiel flagship attempts to honor the city’s intellectual history thanks to Hemingway, Hugo, Fitzgerald, Kerouac, Joyce and all the other literary geniuses that have been inspired by the magical streets of Paris.
Swedish-Portugese artist Andre Saravia and French art director Thomas Lenthal are the two creative minds behind this project. Saravia explained his love of books — "As soon as I move into an apartment, the first thing I do is design the bookcase." Pro tip- according to Lenthal, the most scandalous and erotic books are located by the fitting room.
Although the books themselves are not for sale, dozens of pieces from Rykiel’s latest collection are planted throughout the shelves and are available for purchase.
The project will be installed in London and Tokyo later this month before Rykiel releases a new design platform for all of her boutiques next year.
We certainly can’t wait to take our studying out of Starbucks and into Sonia Rykiel.
