Despicable Me takes on Fashion with Giles Deacon + more

Ever since we saw Despicable Me in 2010, the film’s adorable lil’ yellow creatures have found a place in our hearts — and are now welcoming themselves into our wardrobes too. In conjunction with Minions, a spinoff of the 3D animated hit, Universal has recruited some of London’s most innovative designers to create a clothing line for the film’s upcoming release in July.

The designers and brands behind this project include Rupert Sanderson, Giles Deacon, Piers Atkinson, Tatty Devine, Criminal Damage and SJYP. Collectively, their line consists of embellished Minion imagery printed on high heeled pumps, beanies, shift-dresses and bowler hats. According to Deacon, his pieces (pictured left) reflect London fashion in the 60s, which is when the film takes place.

Jamie Stevens, the VP of Universal Partnerships & Licensing stated:
“We took inspiration from the London setting of the film and partnered with several U.K. designers we felt could accurately translate the sweet and subversive personality of the Minions to fashion.” He explained that the line will be “a collection of fashion-forward pieces that will appeal to the brand’s young adult and adult fans.”

The line will be released at London Selfridges stores in June and Paris Colette stores in July.

We can only hope that our friends across the pond will ship some of these pieces over ASAP.
