Trans Man Could Be Featured on Men's Health Cover
This year, Men’s Health Magazine could make history. The all-encompassing bro bible has set out to discover the ‘Ultimate Guy’ — one who is well-rounded, fit, fearless, active, health conscious and does good. And who could this dreamboat of a guy be? None other than Aydian Dowling, a 27 year-old transgender man from Eugene, Oregon. Dowling, who came out as lesbian in high school, has been transitioning over the past 5 years.
Not only is the bodybuilder in 1st place, but he is also ahead of his next competitor by over 30,000 votes. If he remains in the lead, Dowling will be the first transgender man to grace the cover of Men’s Health, making strides for trans individuals everywhere.
Back in high school, Dowling’s girlfriend at the time asked him if he had ever considered becoming a man. He had never considered it before, but instantly became fascinated. Dowling explains that, back then, there was little information available on transitioning, but discovered a clip of a trans man on the Maury show that changed his life.
The trans-activist is the founder of Point 5cc, a clothing company specializing in chest binding t-shirts for female to male trans individuals, which also works to sponsor reassignment surgeries. In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, he also has his own fitness-oriented YouTube channel called Beefheads.
This is not the first time Dowling has been on a magazine cover. In February, he was featured on the cover of FTM, a trans-culture magazine. Dowling explains, "I want to break the stereotype of what a man should or shouldn’t be” — and he is certainly on his way.
