Lil Buck Dances With Keith Haring AT New Museum
For just one night, Lil Buck will take part in a special performance and presentation directed by Damian Woetzel at the New Museum. Recognized for his athletic dominance of the dance form known as jookin’, and collaborations with names like Yo-Yo Ma, Janelle Monae, and Madonna, Lil Buck will be interpreting the world of a legendary contemporary artist and activist in a project called A Conversation Between Lil Buck and Keith Haring.
The show is meant to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of Haring’s death in 1990 due to AIDS related complications and will reflect how the artist’s art and activism have inspired Lil Buck’s dance movement. Buck fully immersed himself in Haring’s universe, as he had the opportunity to workshop his dance moves in Haring’s old studio. After the performance, Lil Buck will engage in conversation with Julia Gruen, the executive director of the Keith Haring Foundation, and Damian Woetzel the director of the Aspen Institute Arts Program where the dancer is the Harman-Eisner Artist in Residence.
A Conversation Between Lil Buck and Keith Haring is happening this Thursday, April 23 at the New Museum. Be sure to purchase tickets [here]( http://www.newmuseum.org/calendar/view/a-conversation-between-lil-buck-and-keith-haring-directed-by-damian-woetzel-1)
