Watch A$AP Rocky's psychedelic new music video
We’ve all been patiently waiting for the song of the summer and A$AP Rocky’s newest single may just be it. His second studio album At.Long.Last.A$AP won’t be out for another two weeks, but he isn’t making the wait too bad. Earlier this week, A$AP just dropped a new track and accompanied it with a trippy music video to prepare us for the album’s upcoming release.
The video shows A$AP and a mysterious love interest strolling through the neon-lit streets of Tokyo while tripping on LSD. Directed by Dexter Navy and A$AP himself, the video shows various images of Tokyo nightlife that turn into bright and kaleidoscopic patterns that resemble an acid trip. The camera’s fast and choppy movements create a psychedelic and hallucinatory vibe that complement the slow-tempoed track perfectly.
‘L$D (Love x $ex x Dreams)’, the title of the track, is a softer, more sensitive ballad — a side of A$AP that we rarely see. A$AP told Billboard that "Last time I was more concerned, subconsciously, with doing something mainstream. Once I did that, I not only proved to the world but to myself that I could do anything that I wanted.” It’s been 3 years since his last album Long.Live.A$AP and L$D is proof that A$AP hasn’t fallen victim to the tragic sophomore slump.
A$AP’s certainly loving his new sense of artistic freedom and so are we.
