Welcome to the World Caitlyn Jenner!
It’s been several weeks since the landmark television event of the year but we’ve still been thinking of Bruce Jenner. The former Olympian shook the world with the news of his gender identity, and in her interview with Diane Sawyer she officially said goodbye to her male-identified persona. Today marked the release of her stunning cover for Vanity Fair, wherein she has introduced herself anew. Welcome to the world, Caitlyn Jenner.
In the shoot photographed by Annie Liebovitz, Jenner presents herself as she has always longed to for the first time ever in public. She drips with elegance in a custom-made silk strapless bodysuit, but debuts even more looks in the accompanying behind the scenes video such as a sequined gown and a minidress by Donna Karan.
While it is of course amazing to see her look so flawless, the important part of this photo-shoot is just how happy Caitlyn looks to be presenting herself. Now 65, she speaks at length on finally reveling in her true identity. “Bruce always had to tell a lie. He was always living that lie. Caitlyn doesn’t have any secrets” she tells reporter Buzz Bissinger. She has also received a verified Twitter account, where achieved a following of over 150,000 in its first 40 minutes of existence.
This monumental cover comes hot on the heels of an overwhelmingly positive year for the trans community, perhaps their most important yet. A trans man is in the running to cover Men’s Health Magazine, trans model Andreja Pejic was profiled in Vogue and fellow model Hari Nef was just recently signed to IMG, and to top it all off, the honorific ‘Mx.’ has officially been validated as an identifier to join ‘Mr.’ and ‘Ms.’ We could not be more happy for Caitlyn Jenner, and for so many events of unprecedented importance to occur within the first half of 2015, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
