When will Apple show gingers some love?
In a world that speaks Emoji, there was something missing in our latest iOS 8.3 update. The Unicode Consortium Emoji Subcommittee– yes this exists- which selects the core sets of ideograms has failed to include redheads. With characters in five skin tones and same-sex couplehood, it seems ridiculous that redheads still lack an Emoji presence.
The Ginger community’s online voice Ginger Parrot (aka all things nice and gingerful) quickly mobilized a campaign. The founder of the website, Emma Kelly, was inspired by the Diversify my Emoji petition, setting up a Change.org petition to address the problem head on. The petition reads, “In all their glorious gingerness, redheads have been missed out. Again. If you say you’re going to diversify, why not add a few ginger-haired emoji in the mix? Natural redheads may be rare at less than 2% of the world’s population, but that is 138,000,000 iPhones waiting to happen.”
At the moment, 11,000 signatures say yaas to Ginger emojis. We anxiously wait for [Apple’s](http://www.milkmade.com/articles?utf8=%E2%9C%93&search=apple ) response, as their intent has always been good, and clearly always ready to listen. If they’re currently considering new emojis like avocados, bacon and wilted flowers, surely there’s room for some Ginger rep.
