'The O.C. Musical' Is a Very Real Thing
Fans of The O.C. might remember that Chino’s very own Ryan Atwood used to star in musicals when he was a kid, and while some us might’ve reacted with a Summer-esque, “Musicals? Ew,” we have to admit we were always curious to see the wife-beater wearing bad boy gyrate his hips to Phantom Planet. Well it seems like the 00s gods have been listening to us, or maybe were just on an O.C. binge marathon, but either way it’s finally here: The O.C. Musical.
No, this is not a joke. As the official Twitter for the upcoming musical says, “Yes! This is a real thing. We’re turning LA into The Bait Shop for one night only. All your favorite songs from the show.” While not much other information has been released (save a confusing script image and a parody song), we’re already fantasizing about re-living our favorite moments with a dash of bravado. Who doesn’t want to hear Luke sing a song in which he welcomes Ryan to the O.C., bitch? Or watch Marissa shoot Trey in slow motion while a choir of children make Imogen Heap’s ‘Hide and Seek’ even more dramatic?
While this might seem a little out there for skeptics, the musical will be brought to life by the same people who created a surprisingly successful and well reviewed musical version of Cruel Intentions. I guess we’ll have to wait for more information to fully form an opinion, but let’s be honest – we’ve been on the run, driving in the sun, waiting for an O.C. comeback for so long. California here we come!
The O.C. Musical will happen on August 30th in L.A.
