Naomi Campbell shuts down Givenchy as label leaves Paris

It’s been a good run but Givenchy is saying au-revoir to Paris. Come September, the luxury label will move to the tents at New York Fashion Week. C’est bon!

The news follows the Spring 2016 Menswear show last week, which was a spectacular commentary on the incarceration system. The collection combined prison influences (there was a cage on stage) with images of Jesus, modified Americana, a new glittery take on the zoot suit, and lots of denim. The show featured women in menswear (not unusual for Givenchy) including the legendary Naomi Campbell and fresh face Kendall Jenner. At 46, Naomi still radiates ‘I’m scared of her but I want to be her.

The move from Paris to New York will correspond with the opening of the new flagship store on Madison Avenue — the first to open since the last one closed in 2006. The 5,000 foot space is scheduled to open in late August before fashion week.

Riccardo Tisci recently revealed that the Spring 2016 show will be a collaboration with performance artist Marina Abramovic, who will help with art direction. This pair will surely produce something magnificent that will have the internet in a frenzy. We can’t wait.

Givenchy is scheduled to show at NYFW on September 11th. "It’s a very delicate day for America, and so the show is going to be a celebration of family and love," Tisci told WWD. With a new stage and a supreme collaboration, this show is sure to be the fashion event of the year.
