Marvel Recreates Your Fave Hip Hop Album Covers
With the rise of Marvel movies, it’s been a beautiful time to be alive for comic book lovers. From Guardians of the Galaxy to the upcoming Ant Man, fans have a new hero to count on every few months. Now superhero fans and hip hop fans alike have something to look forward to: Marvel artists are reimagining famous hip hop albums by replacing the artists with iconic comic characters in a new collection called Hip Hop Variants.
But surprisingly, the hip hop and comic community have been linked for some time. From fans advocating for rapper Childish Gambino, AKA Donald Glover, to take on some web slinging as Spiderman, to Marvel covers shouting out Run the Jewel’s staple gun and chain. Now, followers of both get another special treat with covers like Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version featuring Howard the Duck, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic with Dr. Strange and A$AP Rocky’s Long.Live.ASAP., showing off Falcon turned Captain America character, Sam Wilson.
From cult classics like the X-Men, to funny one off characters like Squirrel Girl, the covers are making us nostalgic for some OG 90s rap. And this is only the beginning. Marvel has announced over 50 of the new covers to come. Anyone else excited for the Gambino X Spidey cover?
