Kelis Wants to Jam And Make You a Better Cook

Kelis might have had everyone flaunting their milkshakes back in ’03, but the singer wasn’t playing when she said hers were better than yours. The Grammy nominee who had you jammin’ to hits like ‘Bossy’ and ‘Millionaire’ is dishing out a book of recipes this fall that’ll make your tastebuds dance. The cookbook, My Life On A Plate, focuses on the artist’s journey with food and the dishes she’s tasted along the way. You wanna see the receipts? She’s got them.

The world may know her as the badass pop singer, but she’s been cooking up a storm on the DL. The music-making foodie studied at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, becoming a certified saucier in 2008. It’s like she has a dual identity situation going on (very Hannah Montana). By day she’s pounding dough and channeling some serious Rachel Ray vibes (that plaid shirt…wow), and by night she’s decked out and rollin’ in the dough.

This book isn’t Kelis’ first attempt at blending her two selves. Last year, she released her cuisine-inspired album FOOD. It reads a bit more like a menu than a track list with songs like ‘Breakfast’ and ‘Biscuits n’ Gravy’. There’s even some ‘Hooch’ tucked in there too. Now with this cookbook coming out, maybe her next step will be opening a restaurant? We’re imagining a diner that only serves food off her albums. We wouldn’t mind trying some of her ‘Friday Fish Fry.’
