PLUR News Of The Day: Arcade Fire, Diplo, and Skrillex Collab
Are Arcade Fire, Skrillex and Diplo working together to create the supergroup of our dreams? And more importantly, exactly how PLUR would that be? The answers to those questions are: we’re pretty sure and so goddamn PLUR.
In a recent interview with Charlie Rose, Diplo and Skrillex, the duo behind Justin Bieber collaboration machine Jack Ü — and forefathers of the Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect lifestyle — let loose some hints that they could be releasing new music with Arcade Fire. The pair told Rose that they had an “album’s worth of material” recorded with the indie rock legends after hanging out in studio together. Apparently this little jam session featured a solid twenty minutes of music with “everybody on an instrument,” hopefully a small and triumphant return to Skrillex’s early days in an emo band. Diplo then clarified that he got “the files” from Arcade Fire and was editing “down these loops in little pieces.”
No one knows exactly what that means, but, really, who knows how EDM works anyhow?
This collab could explain the pictures Arcade Fire tweeted out a few months ago showing Diplo and Skrillex in studio — although it was later clarified that they were only getting a tour of the studio, so who knows who to trust. But, the possibility of Jack Ü x Arcade Fire is probably enough to make the festival scene explode. At the very least it could make dorky indie rock boys and tank-top wearing EDM bros have one thing in common: our first step to world peace.
