The Weeknd is the Star of Yeezy's New Collection
Fuck whatever y’all been wearin’ because it’s almost time for Yeezus season to drop. Amid the feverish hype for Saturday’s release of Kanye West’s all-black $200 Yeezy Boost 350s sneakers, a new preview of his Adidas-backed winter collection has been unveiled—with a little help from his friend. Fresh off a nearly undisputed reign as the king of the summer with everyone’s fav cocaine love anthem and club banger “I Can’t Feel My Face,” Canadian alt-R&B artist The Weeknd is stepping into the modeling game as a favor to Kanye.
“I really felt like he targeted someone like me,” The Weeknd told GQ during a rare interview and photoshoot. “The camo, the army look, the black boots, the nonchalant kind of vagrant look. I relate to it. It relates to my story. Kanye is such a great friend of mine as well, when he asked me I couldn’t say no. It was the least I could do.”
In the shoot, The Weeknd models a classic Kanye aesthetic of hypermasculine Army surplus swag mixed with comfort casual sleek. The pieces include shimmery utility vests, wide-weave sweaters with leather patches, and high-sheen parkas that flow effortlessly with The Weeknd’s vibe.
If you’re salivating over the looks Kanye designed and curated, it’s time to decide what organs you can live without. Despite a promise to Style in February that he would “eventually get them super-inexpensive,” the pieces still range in price from $545 to $3,250. Eating ramen noodles and bread for a month is worth the price of a piece from Yeezy, though, because fashion reigns supreme above all else. As you wait for the collection to drop, you can jam to The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness album when it drops on Aug. 28.
Between sold-out shoes, a fashion brand that’s taking streetwear by storm, and his yet-to-be-released Swish album that the Internet is panicking over, it’s clear that this is Kanye’s world and we’re just living in it.
