Kristen Stewart Gets Meta For New Chanel Film
Karl Lagerfeld, the star of Totally Spies!, has a film career that only continues to grow. After directing Cara Delevigne and Pharrell in a short film for Chanel, Karl has returned to the director’s chair for a new film with Kristen Stewart, a current face of the brand and the Daria Morgendorffer of Hollywood.
Women’s Wear Daily reports that the Kaiser cast Stewart in a rather meta short film; she’ll portray an actress on the set of a fictional biopic about Coco Chanel, while actress Geraldine Chaplin will play the lady herself. Harper’s Bazaar editor Laura Brown will also be featured in the film, which is set to debut at Chanel’s Métiers d’Arts show in Rome on December 1st.
The plot is a tad reminiscent of Stewart’s acclaimed role in The Clouds of Sils Maria, where an aging actress (Juliette Binoche) saw a young starlet (Chloe Grace Moretz) take over the part she made famous. Lagerfeld said that Stewart played the role “really, really mean,” which, based on how she notoriously never smiles, we’re very excited to see.
The film was shot last month in the studio of famed director Luc Besson. It is set primarily in the office and corridor of the fictional biopic’s producer. Lagerfeld oversaw every aspect of the film, including the plot, dialogue, casting and costuming. “They make so many movies about Chanel,” he said. “Why can’t I make one?” We believe in you, Karl.
