Watch Peter Lindbergh Reunite w/ Cindy Crawford in New Film
Who could forget the fashion world in the 90s, when the ‘Big Six’ could be seen on every cover, modeling every label, and basically dominating the fashion scene with fabulous glamour and style. And who could forget the moment that started it all: Peter Lindbergh’s 1990 Vogue January cover that brought us names like Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington. In The Reunion, a short film by Nowness, Peter Lindbergh put some of his favorite ‘supers’ back in front of his camera. The still-gorgeous Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Karen Alexander, Nadja Auermann, and Patitz all posed for the artist in this black and white film while on the beach. It got us longing for wilder days, so join us as we take a look back at some of these models’ most iconic moments from the ’90s. #Only90sKidsKnow
Naomi Campbell’s Phone Incident
Naomi Campbell has been killing it ever since she was first discovered in the mid-80s. The most famous woman of color to model in her time (and perhaps ever), Campbell has slayed in the dating department, picking up celebs in every genre, from Mike Tyson to Robert De Niro. But that’s not the only slaying she did, as we found out when her assistant came forward with an assault case against her. The model plead guilty to hitting her employee in the head with a hotel phone. If nothing else, it’s nice to know that the world-class vixen doesn’t get her actual hands dirty – just her phones.
When Christy Turlington Got Naked for PETA
As one third of the supermodel ‘Trinity,’ featuring Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington dazzled us all with her gorgeous looks. We soon discovered that behind that beauty, Turlington had a mind for social justice, lending her voice to many different humanitarian works. However, we’re focusing on the one she lent her body to. Turlington stripped naked for a PETA anti-fur campaign in 1993. The ad boasted a quote from the model saying, “I’d rather go naked than wear fur.” While there was a feminist backlash against PETA for objectifying women in the campaign, we have to agree – we’d rather Turlington go naked too.
That Time When Claudia Schiffer Was Engaged To David Copperfield
The idea of the bombshell Claudia Schiffer just dating ‘illusionist’ David Copperfield is pretty wacky, but then when you remember that they were engaged for almost six years, you can’t help but wonder what the hell the pillow talk between these two was. While rumors circulated post break up that the couple was just for show, they were ardent about the validity of the almost-union. We still have to wonder what Copperfield’s magic words were to keep the beautiful blonde under his spell.
Linda Evangelista’s Quote We All Want to Live By
“We have this expression, Christy and I: We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day,” Linda Evangelista told Jonathan Van Meter during a shoot for Vogue. Evangelista went on to prove that whether blonde or brunette, models have the most fun. The quote has gone on to follow Evangelista for years, but we can’t blame her. When you’re changing the way your industry works like that, you can demand a little something more for it. Her quote perfectly encapsulates the supers’ reign, with all the glitz and glam one could imagine. Do you think she’s adjusted her prices for inflation?
Kate Moss and Johnny Depp’s Drug Haze Of A Relationship
We all knew Kate Moss partied hardcore back in the day, but with the release of Maureen Callahan’s book Champagne Supernovas last year, we got a hard look at her tumultuous relationship with Johnny Depp. The author wrote, “Kate and Johnny were the chicest, druggiest couple since Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg, the epitome of cool in a Trainspotting culture.” She also noted Moss’s own spiral when she alleged, “In one sitting, [Kate] could snort three grams of coke and drink a bottle of vodka, which a doctor said was the best liquor for preserving her looks.” While the models were fab, we couldn’t forget the darker side of their lives as well.
