5 SS17 Leggings That You'll Actually Want to Wear
Wearing leggings as pants has long been a fashion don’t. Pair them with UGGs and a sweatshirt, and your most comfortable leg wear becomes a flaming indicator of chronic basic-ness. But if we’ve learned anything from this past Fashion Month (and we learned a lot), it’s that leggings can look revolutionary… if they’re done right. Lazy folk rejoice, the easiest bottoms known to humankind have earned their spot in our hearts thanks to these five, well-intentioned brands.
Courrèges‘ latest leggings are so cute it almost feels wrong. Until you realize that it is very much right. With thick white seams against a brilliant royal blue fabric, these futuristic, moto-esque bottoms are giving us major Jetsons vibes—The Jetsons on a yoga retreat, that is.
2. Maison Margiela
Reminiscent of a freshly painted Corvette, the leggings that John Galliano afforded us with his SS17 Margiela collection is akin to wet, shiny skin. They come in a loud red and a deep navy, and seem to look best when worn under some sort of frock. The red ones look like they were taken straight from Britney‘s “Oops I did it Again,” and any opportunity to channel Brit is an opportunity we’re on board with. We’ll take ten pairs, please!
Ah, Gucci, you can do no wrong. In a move that has Alessandro Michele written all over it, the brand’s most recent ss17 collection includes leggings that effortlessly blend athleisure and Gucci’s signature embroidery. Featuring sporty, tracksuit stripes and delicate, glistening flower embroidery, they’re pants Michele he’s made before, except this time they’re body-hugging and, frankly, fierce. And that’s not even all; also included in the collection are similar tracksuit leggings, except with dainty bow detailing down the middle. Oh and sequins. Leggings came in sequins too.
Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that folds and flaps of velvet, whipped up into a pair of leggings, with foldover-thigh-high accents, could work so perfectly. And yet, Y/Project did just that with one of the best legging iterations we’ve seen in awhile. Wear them with an equally fold-heavy top, or a simpler one; whichever way you go, you’ll be winning.
For Versace’s SS17 collection, the disco pant (R.I.P.) was altered and transformed into a sportier pair of leggings. They featured long, ’70s-flavored, trippy swirls of bold, contrasting colors, and a single silver zipper down the front. Paired with one of the collection’s statement windbreakers or pullovers, these tight pants are #goals.
