5 Vintage Netflix Picks to Get You in The Holiday Spirit
The seasonal cheer is in full swing, and there’s no better place to retreat from post-Thanksgiving/pre-holiday purgatory than behind a laptop screen. So here’s our official list of five supremely nostalgic ’90s Netflix picks to put you in the merry mood or, at the very least, serve as the perfect stockpile for your upcoming days of veg bliss in front of your parents’ TV.
The Ref (1994)
One thing’s for sure: our love for Kevin Spacey knows no bounds. Paired with Denis Leary as Gus and Judy Davis as Caroline, and The Ref was essentially bound for classic-status the minute it hit theaters in 1994. This trio brings us everything the holiday season requires (that’s family, cheer, and just the right amount of trouble), so add it to your watch list, stat.
The Grinch is reborn as spoiled, selfish TV exec Frank Cross (Bill Murray) in this 1988 class act—on the fence of our favorite decade and a killer reimagining of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol, Scrooged is a must.
Home Alone (1990)
As if this wouldn’t make the list. Being forgotten on Christmas is obviously a less-than-ideal way to spend the holiday season. Nevertheless, young Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) makes the most of his solo staycation, and we’re taken along for the ride.
While You Were Sleeping (1995)
Follow hopeless romantic Lucy Moderatz (Sandra Bullock) through a series of unfortunate events in which she is mistaken for a hospitalized man’s fiancé right before the holidays commence. It’s a classic ’90s love story wrapped up in seasonal cheer…AKA December Netflix excellence.
Love Actually (2003)
We feel it in our fingers—whether you’ve seen it already or not, do yourself a favor this month and devote 136 minutes to the perfection that is this strange nine-person love triangle.
