6/12/17: Your Weekly Activist Events Roundup

In case you didn’t know, due to our President’s lack of acknowledgment, we are two weeks strong into Pride Month. Despite Mr. Trump’s blinding ignorance, Washington D.C. showed up yesterday for the annual Equality March, with special appearances and major support by the NYC gays, courtesy of the Grindr-sponsored Pride Ridea fleet of six coach buses that transported Manhattan marchers to the nation’s capital, organized by activist Adam Werner and artist Rooney. In case that’s not enough to prove gay activism is not only alive and well, but flirty and thriving, we’ve gathered a number of events today that honor the LGBTQ communities during this magical month.

Monday, June 12

Pulse Memorial Rally—One Year AnniversaryWhat: It’s been an entire year since the unfortunate tragedy that struck Orlando, and the general LGBTQ communities, at Pulse Nightclub. Today, we rise up to commemorate the 49 lives taken in the massacre, by expressing our discontent with hate violence and giving a voice to the intersections of gender, race and sexuality, through this one-year memorial organized by Gays Against Guns and 20 partnering LGBTQ nightclubs. The service will be held at America’s first LGBTQ national monument, Stonewall Inn, and organizers are calling for all participants to wear black in mourning.

When: 7PM – 9PM

Where: The Stonewall Inn, 53 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014

Black Queer Brooklyn on Film: Carrie Hawks & Reina GossettWhat: Featuring two works by artists specializing in animation, this event series hosted at the Brooklyn Museum aims to honor the black queer community by way of film every Thursday. This week the films are black enuf* by Carrie Hawks and The Personal Things by Reina Gossett. The viewings will be followed by a premiere of one of Gossett’s upcoming films and also a conversation between the directors and audience.

When: 7PM – 9PM

Where: The Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY 11238

NYC Pride 2017: The RallyWhat: NYC Pride is bringing the Rally back into the streets as LGBTQ rights face threat under our nation’s current administration. Continuing the tradition that was pioneered one month after the Stonewall Riots in 1969, NYC Pride hosts the demonstration and vigil annually in different locations. Stand in solidarity at Foley Square to express your support with a respectable pregame to the upcoming pride parade.

When: 6PM – 8PM

Where: Foley Square, 111 Worth St, New York, NY 10013

Saturday, June 17

PRIDE Baby’s Big Disco

What: What is Pride without its parties, right ladies? If you’re an activist who likes to get rowdy in the streets as much as you do at the club, prove it here. Brooklyn staple Baby’s All Right, in cooperation with Little Disco NYC, presents the Gay Pride edition of their weekly party. Party proceeds will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union, so put that that fun into fundraising, and as the event says, “Move your body! Touch your lover! Bring your friends!”

When: 6PM – 8P

Where: Baby’s All Right, 146 Broadway, Brookly, NY 11211
