Opening Night | Dirty Old Town
Dirty Old Town is the going-out-of-business-and-going-insane tale of an antique shop on its last leg. It’s a New York story in the same vein as Do The Right Thing and Panic In Needle Park: a glimpse into a lifestyle and a culture as it exists at a particular moment in time – in this case, what downtown New York is right now – a Disneyworld version of what it used to be. The film immortalizes each of its characters, an eccentric group of mascots of the "Old New York" and a time before it’s gentrification, and turns their stories into the stuff of myths and legends.
“It’s the story of dinosaurs after the comet”, says photographer and co-director of Dirty Old Town, Julia Willoughby Nason.
